Next Century Water Submetering & AMR

Next Century builds the complete multifamily water submetering chain — poly-body cold and hot meters, transceivers, repeaters, gateways and remote displays — so an entire property reads automatically instead of door to door.

The value of an AMR system is not the meter, it is not having to enter apartments to read it. Meters transmit to transceivers, transceivers reach a gateway, and the gateway delivers a full property read on the billing date without a walk-through.

Building the system

Meters. Poly-body 3/4" cold and hot meters are the multifamily standard — the 3/4" cold poly meter (CA approved) and 3/4" hot poly meter.
Transceivers. The TR4-X transceiver reads the meter and carries the register wirelessly.
Repeaters and gateways. Add a repeater across long or awkward buildings and terminate on a gateway for automatic collection.
Remote displays where a meter sits somewhere inconvenient to read by eye.

Selection and compliance notes

Size to actual fixture-unit flow rather than to pipe diameter; an oversized meter under-registers low flow, which shows up as unbilled water. Confirm state approval before ordering for billing use — California requires approved meters, which is why the CA-approved variants exist. Which Next Century meter do I need for an apartment?

Most apartments take a 3/4 inch poly-body meter, cold or hot depending on the line being metered. Size to the actual fixture-unit flow rather than the pipe, and choose a state-approved variant where local rules require one for billing.

Do I need repeaters?

Only where the building layout attenuates the signal: long corridors, multiple wings, concrete cores or basements. A site design based on the building's plans determines the count; adding a repeater later is straightforward but disruptive, so plan them in the survey.

Can these meters be used for tenant billing?

Yes, subject to your jurisdiction's rules on meter approval, billing practice and disclosure. Several states, California among them, require approved meter types for billing, and utility-style consumer protections often apply to how the charge is presented on the tenant's statement.
