Which environmental sensors are available?

Why pair sensors with meters?
Meters tell you how much energy was used. Sensors tell you the conditions during that use, which is what turns raw consumption into actionable insight for ventilation, scheduling, and tenant comfort.
Do these sensors publish into the same dashboard as meters?
Yes. Sensor data flows through the same integration controllers and connectivity bridges into the Emergent Metering platform alongside meter data.
How long do the batteries last?
Most LoRaWAN sensors run up to 10 years on a factory battery at typical 10–15 minute reporting intervals. Higher-frequency reporting, extreme cold, and constant radio-poor conditions shorten that window; the platform tracks per-device battery voltage and flags any sensor trending toward end-of-life.
What wireless protocol do the sensors use?
Most are LoRaWAN, which is a low-power, long-range wireless standard designed for battery-powered IoT. Some devices use Zigbee or cellular. LoRaWAN is preferred for facilities because a single gateway typically covers an entire building or campus without adding to the corporate Wi-Fi.
How far can a sensor transmit to its gateway?
LoRaWAN sensors transmit 2,000+ feet indoors through walls and floors, and multiple miles outdoors line-of-sight. One rooftop or mechanical-room gateway usually covers an entire building; large campuses use a small mesh of gateways.
Do I need a separate gateway to use these sensors?
Yes. LoRaWAN sensors require a LoRaWAN gateway (Milesight UG56 or UG65 are typical) to receive their radio traffic and forward it to the platform over Ethernet or cellular. We size and spec the gateway with the sensor plan so coverage is confirmed before install.
Do sensors need Wi-Fi or IT network access?
No. The sensors themselves never touch your Wi-Fi or corporate network — they talk only to the LoRaWAN gateway. The gateway needs a single outbound connection (Ethernet or cellular) to reach the platform, so IT involvement is limited to one uplink.
How long does it take to install a sensor?
Typical install is under 15 minutes per sensor. Devices are magnet-mount, adhesive-mount, or screw-mount, pair to the gateway on power-up, and appear in the dashboard automatically. A full-building deployment usually completes in days, not months.
Can I get real-time alerts when a sensor goes out of range?
Yes. Every point supports high/low thresholds, rate-of-change alerts, and offline detection. Notifications go to email, SMS, or webhook, and each alert includes the device, location, current reading, and timestamp so the responder can act immediately.
Do the temperature logs satisfy FDA, HACCP, and USDA requirements?
Yes. Continuous logging, tamper-evident time-stamped records, automated excursion alerts, and PDF/CSV export on demand meet FDA 21 CFR Part 11, HACCP, and USDA documentation requirements for cold-chain and food-service applications.
What temperature range do the cold-chain sensors cover?
Standard probes cover roughly -40 °F to 185 °F (-40 °C to 85 °C), which handles walk-in freezers, coolers, prep lines, warm rooms, and ambient spaces. Specialty probes are available for ultra-low freezers and autoclaves.
Are the sensors accurate enough for pharmaceutical and lab use?
Yes. Healthcare and lab-grade probes carry ±0.5 °C accuracy or better and support NIST-traceable calibration certificates on request, which is what most vaccine, specimen, and compounding-pharmacy protocols require.
Can sensors detect water leaks under sinks and in mechanical rooms?
Yes. Spot leak sensors sit on the floor and trigger the moment their contacts get wet. Rope-style sensors run along the length of a pipe or under a row of equipment and identify the location of the water event, not just its presence.
Do you offer sensors for indoor air quality (IAQ)?
Yes. The catalog includes CO₂, VOC, PM2.5, temperature, humidity, and occupancy sensors — the inputs needed for WELL, LEED, ASHRAE 62.1 ventilation control, and healthy-building programs. Multi-in-one devices reduce the number of points to install.
Can these sensors submeter electricity at the circuit or equipment level?
Yes, using wireless current sensors such as Panoramic Power that clip around a conductor and self-power from the magnetic field. They stream circuit-level kWh to the same dashboard as environmental sensors, so consumption and conditions live side by side.
Will these sensors integrate with my BMS, BAS, or existing energy platform?
Yes. Data can be published to a BMS or BAS over BACnet/IP or Modbus TCP through an integration controller, delivered to an ERP or data lake via API and webhooks, or forwarded to another dashboard product. The Managed Intelligence team handles the mapping and commissioning.
